Hola de nuevo! Durante esta crisis mundial he tenido (y seguiré teniendo me parece a mi) mucho tiempo libre, y he decido emplear una parte para buscar algo de información para responder a una de las preguntas que más recibo: ¿cómo haces para viajar tanto?
Me he dado cuenta de que muchas veces la gente no viaja por desconocimiento. Muchos me preguntan de donde saco el dinero para viajar, creyendo que sólo con mucho dinero puedes visitar o vivir en otros países. Pues en eso se basa este post: el dinero no es un impedimento para viajar, asi que, después de este post, ¡ya puedes ir buscando más excusas para no viajar!
La clave, básicamente, es: buscar, buscar, buscar y NUNCA desistir. Hay miles de opciones ahí fuera para estudiar o trabajar en el extranjero.
Personalmente, creo que vivir en el extranjero aunque sea sólo unos meses, te aporta muchas cosas que llevarás contigo el resto de tu vida. Además, yo siempre lo pienso de este modo: si no lo intentas, nunca sabrás si era para ti. En cambio, si lo intentas podrás comprobarlo personalmente y, en caso de que consideres que no es para ti, siempre hay tiempo para volver. En cualquier caso siempre habrás aprendido algo positivo: que es lo que quieres y que es lo que no.
Viajar y vivir en el extranjero te da la oportunidad de abrir tu mente, de madurar, de conocer gente, otras culturas y costumbres, otras formas de ver la vida. Por mucho que hayas vivido en pisos con otros estudiantes, nunca será lo mismo. Cuando llegas a un nuevo país maduras de golpe al darte cuenta de todo lo que tienes que hacer por tu cuenta. Esto no quiere decir que vayas a estar solo, siempre contarás con el apoyo de alguien: otros extranjeros, gente local, coordinadores de las unviersidades... te sorprendería la cantidad de gente tan buena que hay por el mundo...
EURODESK: esta no es exactamente una oportunidad para viajar, pero ojalá la hubiera conocido mucho antes (mi familia seguramente opina lo contrario, porque después de descubrir esta plataforma no creo que vuelva a pasar por casa). Se podría decir que es un "buscador de oportunidades en el extranjero". Eurodesk es una asociación internacional sin ánimo de lucro cuyo objetivo es dar a conocer opotunidades de movilidad. Ahora voy a dividir las opciones en: trabajo, voluntariado y formación para facilitar la búsqueda según vuestros intereses. Tened en cuenta que hay más opciones de las que yo pongo aquí, pero es que me faltarían pandemias para encontrarlas todas. De hecho, si conocéis alguna que no esté aquí, decidme y lo añadiré.
TRABAJO
1. EURES/TU PRIMER TRABAJO EURES
EURES es una red de cooperación diseñada para facilitar el libre movimiento de trabajadores dentro de la Unión Europea. Básicamente es como una oficina de empleo a nivel Europeo, que también funciona a nivel nacional y local con oficinas asociadas. Normalmente estas oficinas asociadas pueden ser las propias oficinas públicas de empleo de tu ciudad, en ellas puedes obtener información, ofertas de empleo... EURES ademas ofrece el programa Tu primer trabajo EURES, un programa de movilidad laboral que ayuda a los ciudadanos de la UE a encontrar un trabajo, una beca de formación o un período de aprendizaje en otro país de la UE, Noruega o Islandia, y ayuda a las empresas a encontrar mano de obra cualificada. Atención! Primera oportunidad de obtener financiación de la UE!: a través de Tu primer trabajo EURES tendrás derecho a recibir ayuda económica para asistir a una entrevista de trabajo en el extranjero, así como para subvenir a costes como la formación lingüística, el reconocimiento de diplomas y cualificaciones o la instalación en el país de destino. 2. HOLIDAY WORK/WORK AND TRAVEL
El nombre puede variar, pero la idea viene siendo la misma: trabajar en el extranjero durante tus vacaciones para costearte los gastos de viaje. Es una buena idea para aquellos que tienen un presupuesto ajustado o para aquellos que no sólo quieren viajar y quieren hacer algo de provecho en sus vacaciones, al fin y al cabo, estarás ganando experiencia para tu CV y aprendiendo un nuevo idioma.
Este tipo de programa es muy común en EE.UU, Australia, Canadá... Consideraciones a tener en cuenta:
-Para estos países necesitas visa, y el número que se dan anualmente son limitadas, así que conviene que lo mires con mucho tiempo de antelación.
-En EE.UU necesitas obligatoriamente realizar el proceso a través de una agencia intermediaria, es el único modo de conseguir la visa. Estos sponsors a su vez tienen agencias acreditadas en cada país que realizan el proceso de buscarte empleo, ayudarte a solicitar la visa, apoyo cuando estés en tu destino... -En otros paises como Australia y Canadá no es requisito, sin embargo, te facilitan mucho las cosas si eres muy perezoso o no sabes donde buscar. Ellos te ayudan a conseguir empleo, a obtener el visado, seguro, y siempre tendrás su apoyo cuando estés en el país de destino en caso de que tengas algún problema. Lo cierto es que la inversión inicial es bastante elevada pero, en teoría, todo ese dinero lo recuperas después trabajando.
-Si no quieres gastarte ese dinero, si el proceso te abruma, siempre puedes trabajar dentro de la Unión Europea. Tampoco me parece tan mala idea pasarte un verano trabajando en la costa francesa 😉.

3. AU PAIR
Creo que no tengo mucho que explicar, pero para los que no lo conozcan, el programa Au Pair consiste en un intercambio cultural en el cual vivirás con una familia, cuidarás de los hijos y, en algunas ocasiones, también realizarás tareas domésticas. A cambio recibes algo de dinero de bolsillo, la cantidad dependerá del país en el que trabajes y de la familia. La estancia y las comidas están incluídas.
Por experiencia personal (trabajé de Au Pair durante 11 meses en Estados Unidos), expongo algunos consejos que considero importantes para que disfrutes una buena experiencia. Precisamente lo digo porque mi experiencia no fue muy positiva y cometí muchos errores que llevaron a ese desenlace, pero me consta que puede ser una gran oportunidad (tengo muchxs amigxs que lo hicieron y no tienen ninguna queja!):
-Antes de nada, este programa está pensado para gente a la que le guste trabajar con niños. No aceptes un trabajo de Au Pair únicamente porque quieres vivir en el extranjero, porque lo vas a acabar pasando mal y los niños no estarán recibiendo el trato que verdaderamente merecen.
-Antes de empezar a buscar una familia, tómate un tiempo para pensar que es lo que quieres, cuales son tus objetivos, que estás y que no dispuesto a hacer, etc. Una vez tengas eso definido, busca las familias que mejor se adapten a tus condiciones. No te apresures. Habla con las familias para llegar a conocerlas lo mejor posible.
-Si realizas todo el proceso sin ninguna agencia intermediaria, te aconsejo (muchísimo) que antes de nada dejes un contrato por escrito, firmado por ambas partes, donde se refleje cuales van a ser tus tareas, horarios, salario...
-Para países como EE.UU es obligatorio (como en el holiday work) hacerlo a través de una agencia intermediaria. No aceptes trabajo directo de una familia. Es ilegal. Te puedes llevar algún disgusto en el país de destino.

VOLUNTARIADO
1. CUERPO EUROPEO SOLIDARIO
Ya hablé de esto en mi primer post. Lo único que voy a repetir es que es una experiencia increíble. Aun ahora, que estoy en casa por culpa del maldito virus, no me arrepiento de nada, y sigo aprendiendo cosas a diario. Os vuelvo a dejar el link por si os interesa: https://europa.eu/youth/solidarity_en. Además, esta es otra de las oportunidades que la UE financia: te pagan los billetes de avión, la estancia, y recibes dinero de bolsillo. Si te gestionas bien, ¡no gastarás ni un sólo euro!
2. VOLUNTARIADO INTERNACIONAL
Esto es de sobra conocido por todos y hay tantas posibilidades que es imposible ponerlas aquí todas. En mi opinión, esta es una oportunidad única, pero debes estar muy bien preparado psicológicamente y físicamente porque en este caso se necesita mucho tu ayuda y si no tienes las condiciones necesarias no vas a ser capaz de ofrecer lo que se espera de ti. La inversión económica puede parecer grande, pero la realidad es que de esta experiencia te llevarás mucho más de lo que aportas.
Hace unos días descubrí este programa que me pareció muy interesante. Es un voluntariado en el que pasas tres meses en Dinamarca preparándote con la asociación, seis meses en el destino realizando el voluntariado y otro mes para reflexionar y compartir sobre la experiencia. Los destinos en los que puedes hacen el voluntariado son Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, India y Guinea Bissau. Os dejo el link: https://lindersvold.dk/international-development-volunteer/.
Este es un solo ejemplo, como he dicho hay muchos más. Tendrás que tomarte tu tiempo para encontrar el que mejor se adapte a ti.
3. VOLUNTARIADO EN LAS NACIONES UNIDAS
No voy a mentir, no parece fácil obtenerlo, pero que experiencia! Con las Naciones Unidas puedes ser voluntario tanto en tu país como en el extranjero, e incluso en línea.
Si cumples todos los requisitos que solicitan, tienes que registrarte en su pagina web https://www.unv.org/es/Hazte-voluntario.
Según he leido en su web, muchas oportunidades (tanto nacionales como extranjeras) no son publicadas, sino que ellos mismos contactan con las personas registradas cuyo CV puede ajustarse mejor a sus necesidades. Por ello es importante que prepares bien tu CV y te registres en su web. En cualquier caso, este registro no significa que vayas a tener una oportunidad inmediatamente, puede pasar bastante tiempo… En otras ocasiones sí publicarán las oportunidades, así que conviene estar atento a sus canales de promoción (https://www.undp.org/content/undp/en/home/jobs.html y https://www.unv.org/es/special-calls?f[0]=field_sc_assignment_categories:4038&f[1]=field_sc_assignment_categories:4039&f[2]=field_sc_assignment_categories:4040&f[3]=field_sc_assignment_categories:4041).
Si estás interesado, por tanto, lo primero que debes hacer es entrar en el link y registrarte.
4. INTERCAMBIOS JUVENILES
Esta opción la ofrece el programa ERASMUS+ y es perfecta para esos que queréis vivir una experiencia en el extranjero pero sólo por períodos cortitos, su duración es de entre 5 y 21 días. Básicamente, viajarás a otro país para trabajar con grupos de gente de diferentes países en proyectos diversos, que pueden ser talleres, actividades al aire libre...La mejor parte: ¡La UE ofrece subvenciones que cubrirán gastos de viaje!
Eso si, no se puede solicitar individualmente, debes hacerlo a través de una organizacion o grupo de jóvenes. Dejo el link de la organización con la que conseguí el voluntariado en Eslovenia: https://www.yeseuropa.org/becas-erasmus-2019/. Hay muchas más, solo es cuestión de buscar. Quizás haya incluso alguna organización cerca de donde vives.
FORMACION
En este caso, tanto si estás en la universidad como en el instituto, es importante que contactes con tu orientador/coordinador ERASMUS+, etc. y le preguntes cuales son las oportunidades que hay. Desafortunadamente, no siempre vas a recibir un gran servicio por su parte. En mi caso, por ejemplo, mi coordinador en la universidad estaba bastante saturado con tanta función que al final desinformaba mas de lo que informaba. Pero bueno, te recomiendo que lo intentes. Sobre todo, porque cuanto más te informes, más posibilidades tendrás de encontrar diferentes becas que ayudarán a pagarte el intercambio.
1. ERASMUS+
De sobra es conocido este programa por todo el mundo. Sin embargo, puede ofrecer más de lo que muchos creen. Ademas de el típico intercambio en tu tercer/cuarto año de universidad, ERASMUS+ ofrece oportunidades para: profesores, prácticas, gente que no está en la universidad y desea hacer un voluntariado corto, trabajadores jóvenes que desean realizar prácticas o visitas de estudio. Si eres una persona a la que le gusta meditar mucho el destino (yo lo hago prácticamente al azar, luego vienen los lamentos…) he encontrado este link donde podéis ver todas las universidades que participan en el programa Erasmus+ con evaluaciones de antiguos estudiantes (ten en cuenta que no todas tienen convenio con tu unviersidad/carrera asi que primero infórmate que opciones te ofrece tu facultad): https://www.iagora.com/studies/.
2. CONVENIO BILATERAL/BOLSAS PROPIAS
En cada universidad puede tener un nombre diferente pero la idea es: hacer un intercambio en países fuera de la Unión Europea (o si eres de fuera de Europa, tambien estaría incluída Europa jeje). En mi caso, por ejemplo, hice tanto el Erasmus como este intercambio y recomiendo 100% hacerlo si tienes la oportunidad. Creo que la USC por ejemplo no lo permite, pero la UVIGO sí.
Pero no podriía decidir entre una u otra. Eso dependerá de cuales son tus gustos, el país que te gustaría visitar, tu presupuesto, las opciones que te ofrece tu universidad...
3. ERASMUS MUNDUS JOINT MASTER DEGREE
Programa de Máster en el que realizas tus estudios durante 12-24 meses en, al menos, 2 de los países participantes de este programa. Para los mejores estudiantes se ofrecen becas que cubren gastos de transporte, matrícula y dinero mensual. Esta ayuda se recibe una vez que hayas sido aceptado en el programa.
En caso de que te interese, entra en el link y ponte en contacto con la organización. Las solicitudes se deben enviar, normalmente, entre octubre y enero para el siguiente curso académico.
4. BECAS GALEUROPA (SOLO PARA GALLEGOS)
Becas para la realización de prácticas formativas no laborales en entidades/empresas públicas o privadas en diferentes países europeos. El objetivo es formarte para tu futuro laboral y adquirir competencias en idiomas extranjeros y fomentar la autonomía personal. La duración es de 2-3 meses. Los plazos de solicitud suelen ser entre abril y mayo. En caso de ser aceptado, recibiras una ayuda económica que cubrirá: gastos de movilidad individual de los participantes desde el día de inicio hasta el día de finalizacion de las prácticas.
Hello again! During this worldwide crisis I had (and I think I will have) plenty of free time, so I’ve decided to use part of it looking for information in order to answer the most frequent question I got: how can you travel so much?
I came to realize that many times people don’t travel because they don’t know the possibilities out there. Many people ask me where I got the money from to travel, they believe that just if you are rich can travel. So, this is what’s going to be the post about: money is NOT a problem if you want to travel, so you can start looking for new excuses not to travel!
Personally, I believe that living abroad, even if it is only for a few months, brings you many things that you will take with you for the rest of your life. Also, I always think of it this way: if you don't try, you will never know if it was for you. On the other hand, if you try and you consider that it is not for you, there is always time to return. In any case, you have always learned something positive: what you want and what you don't.
Traveling and living abroad gives you the opportunity to open your mind, to grow up, to meet people, other cultures and traditions, other ways of seeing life. Even if you have lived in a shared apartment with other students, it will never be the same. When you arrive in a new country you mature at once by realizing everything you have to do on your own. This does not mean that you will be alone, you will always have the support of someone: other foreigners, local people, university coordinators... you would be surprised by the number of such good people there are in the world...

EURODESK: this is not exactly an opportunity to travel, but I wish I had known this before. It is kind of a “opportunity finder”. Eurodesk is an international non-profit association that makes information on learning mobility comprehensive and accessible to young people and those who work with them. JOBS
1. EURES/YOUR FIRST EURES JOB
EURES is a cooperation network designed to facilitate the free movement of workers within the EU-27 countries plus Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Basically, it is like an Employment Services Office that works in Europe, and at the same time at national and local level with associated offices. Besides, EURES offers the program »Your first EURES job«, which is an EU job mobility scheme with the goal of helping young EU citizens find a job, traineeship or apprenticeship opportunity within the EU and helping employers find qualified workforce. Regardless the name, the idea is the same: working abroad during your holidays so you can pay the expenses of your trip. It is a good idea for those with a low budget or for those who want to do something during their holidays and earn some experience for their resume.
This kind of program is really common in the US, Canada, Australia… The following are considerations you should keep on mind:
-For these countries you will need a visa, and it is given a limited number of them annually, so you should look for the job with enough time in advance.
-In United States is mandatory to make the process trough an agency. These are the sponsors that the government recognizes as “official”: https://j1visa.state.gov/participants/how-to-apply/sponsor-search/?program=Summer%20Work%20Travel. These sponsors have at the same time agencies in each country that will help you with the whole process: getting the visa, finding a job, providing assistance when you are in the country… You just need to search in google about the agencies that provide those services in your country.
-In other countries like Australia and Canada it is not mandatory; however, it will make so much easier the process if you do not know where to look for the job, how to get the visa… It is true that the initial investment may seem really high, but, in theory, you should get it back once you started working.
-If you don’t want to spend all that money, if you feel overwhelmed for all the process, you also have the option to work in EU (if you are an EU citizen). It doesn’t look like a bad plan at all to spend a summer in the French coast 😊

3. AU PAIR
I think I do not have much to explain, but for those who do not know it, the Au Pair program consists of a cultural exchange in which you will live with a family, take care of the children and, sometimes, you will also do household chores. In exchange you receive some pocket money, the amount will depend on the country you work in and the family. You will receive full accommodation.
From personal experience (I worked as an Au Pair for 11 months in the United States), here’s some tips that I consider important for you to enjoy a good experience. Precisely I say this because my experience was not very positive and I made many mistakes that led to that outcome, but I know that it can be a great opportunity (I have many friends who did it and have no complaints!):
-First of all, this program is designed for people who like to work with children. Do not accept an Au Pair job just because you want to live abroad, because you will end up having a hard time and the children will not be receiving the treatment they truly deserve.
-Before you start looking for a family, take time to think about what you want, what your goals are, what you are and what you are not willing to do, etc. Once you have that defined, look for the families that best adapt to your conditions. Do not rush. Talk to families to get to know them as well as possible.
-If you carry out the entire process without any intermediary agency, I advise you (very much) to leave a written contract, signed by both parties, which reflects what your tasks, schedules, salary will be ...
-For countries like the USA it is mandatory (as in the holiday work) to do it through an intermediary agency. Do not accept direct work from a family. It is illegal.

1. EUROPEAN SOLIDARITY CORPS
I already talked about this in my first post. The only thing I will repeat is that it is an incredible experience. Even now that I'm home because of the damn virus, I don't regret a thing, and I keep learning things daily. In addition, this is another of the opportunities that the EU finances: they pay you the plane tickets, the stay, and you receive pocket money. If you manage yourself well, you won't spend a single euro!
2. INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERING
This is well known and there are so many possibilities that it is impossible to put them all here. In my opinion, this is a unique opportunity, but you must be very well prepared psychologically and physically because in this case your help is very much needed and if you do not have the necessary conditions you will not be able to offer what is expected of you. The economic investment may seem big, but the reality is that you will get much more than what you give.
A few days ago, I discovered this program that I found very interesting. It is a voluntary service in which you spend three months in Denmark preparing yourself with the association, six months in the destination volunteering and another month to reflect and share about the experience. 3. VOLUNTEERING IN THE UNITED NATIONS
I will not lie, it does not seem easy to obtain, but what an experience! With the United Nations you can be a volunteer both at home and abroad, and even online.

Therefore, it is important that you prepare your CV well and register on its website. 4. YOUTH EXCHANGES
This option is offered by the ERASMUS + program and it is perfect for those who want to live an experience abroad but only for short periods, its duration is between 5 and 21 days. Basically, you will travel to another country to work with groups of people from different countries on various projects, which can be workshops, outdoor activities ... The best part: The EU offers grants that will cover travel expenses!
It cannot be requested individually; you must do it through an organization or youth group. I leave the link of the organization with which I got volunteering in Slovenia. There are plenty of them in each country, you just need to look for on the internet or even in your hometown you may know one organization.
EDUCATION
In this case, whether you are at the university or school, it is important that you contact your ERASMUS + counselor / coordinator, etc. and ask him what the opportunities are. Unfortunately, you are not always going to receive great service from them. In my case, for example, my coordinator at the university was quite saturated with so many tasks that in the end he misinformed rather than inform. But hey, I recommend you to try it. Above all, because the more you learn, the more chances you will have of finding different scholarships that will help you pay for the exchange.

2. EXCHANGE PROGRAM
If you are not from the EU, I am pretty sure your university still offers the opportunity to study abroad one or more semesters. In my case, for example, I did both Erasmus and an exchange program in Brazil because my university allowed me to do so.
It is a great experience that everybody should live. Contact your university to know the options you have. Trust me, even if your budget is limited, there are plenty of options and for sure there will be one that suits you.
3. ERASMUS MUNDUS JOINT MASTER DEGREE
Master's program in which you study for 12-24 months in at least 2 of the countries participating in this program. In this link you can see which countries are participating and what are the degree options: https://eacea.ec.europa.eu/erasmus-plus/library/scholarships-catalogue_en.
Scholarships are offered for the best students to cover transportation, tuition and monthly money. This help is received once you have been accepted into the program.
